This year, American Patchwork & Quilting and the MQG want to see what you do with the classic log cabin block. We challenge you to think beyond the improv log cabin block that was so popular in the early days of modern quilting. How else can you modernize the log cabin — or its many variations? Whether your log cabins start with a square or another shape, have curved or straight edges, stretch your quilt design skills in this challenge!

Modern Log Cabin Quilt Challenge Rules:

1. Must be a current MQG member to participate.
2. Eligible quilts must use a log cabin or log cabin variation as a primary element in the design. A log cabin block is made of strips that build upon or wrap around a center in a circular fashion. The center element does not have to be a square in this challenge, but there should be a clear center element that has strips winding around it.
3. Size restrictions follow the same standard as all QuiltCon quilts — there is no minimum size — there is a maximum of 440″ total perimeter (with no single side larger than 110″).
4. Quilt entries will be open from September 1 to October 31, 2022 (the same as all QuiltCon show entries).
